Dread Hunger's difficulties come from more than just hunger and warmth; sparse creatures can be found in the Arctic wasteland. Below is the list of those spotted by previous expeditions.

Arctic Hares[]

Arctic hares are small, fast, and provide minimal sustenance, but they're typically found in good numbers. They only provide 1 meat.

Seals[]

Seals provide better nutrition than rabbits, and are slower, making them easier targets. Your conscience won't feel too good about clubbing 'em, but seals are an excellent resource to extort. They provide 1 meat and have a chance of providing blubber

Wolves[]

Wolves are vicious, fast, and tough, but once you put it down they provide 3 meats and have a chance of providing sinew (~20% chance) or a pelt (~12% chance) though never both.

Cannibals[]

Returning sailors tell stories of creatures that stalk the ice as you approach the Passage. When dormant they huddle in caves, gnawing on bone and rotted flesh in the darkness. But when awoken by some dark power, they hunt for warmer game. Crawling faster than an able seaman can run and as vicious as exotic beasts, you would be forgiven if you didn't know they were men once; fallen sailors who attempted to find the Passage before us. No one is quite sure how they became like this, the stories are all told a little differently. Men fallen to disease and illness. Men who have stared into the dark months of the Arctic and could not bear the sight. Men driven to desperation so much so that they feasted on human flesh in order to save their lives; forsaking God and country to survive. Thralls have been rumored to be able summon such creatures as well as feast upon their slain flesh. Cannibals and Thralls are just stories, thankfully...

Butchering any creature has a slight chance of providing Bone Charms and/or Skeleton Keys

Polar Bears[]

This is the most powerful creature in the game, and they will attack you if they sight you. Bears are only spawned in specific places, and they cannot respawn. You can kill a Bear using 18 arrows, or it is recommended to bring multiple bears traps if you cannot keep distance with the bear. For example, the top bear of Summit.

The Wendigo (Totem Mod)

If a thrall gathers 10 planks, 10 bones and 2 animal pelts, they can visit the Wendigo shrine deep in a cave on the left side, middle part of the Archipelago map and insert these items to craft a summoning crystal. Be warned, dark magic like this takes a toll on your body! The crystal can be saved in the inventory until the right moment arises, and then the thrall throws it towards the other players, shattering the crystal and summoning forth a dreadful Wendigo. The Wendigo has mighty swipe attacks, weapons and summons cannibals to help it decimate your entire travel group.
